The general rule how to create Question Tags is if the sentence preceding a Question Tag is positive, then Question Tag is negative:
- This task is easy, isn't it?
However, if sentence preceding the Question Tag is negative, then the Question Tag is positive, e.g.:
- The watch isn't too expensive, is it?
To understand a Question Tag properly, the intonation of the speaker is essential. If we expect an answer to our question, then our intonation should be rising. But if we expect only a confirmation of what we've said, then our intonation should be falling.
When creating Question Tags, one should remember to use the same auxiliary/modal verb or operator that we used in the proceding sentence, e.g.:
- He can't sing, can he?
- She hasn't won the prize, has she?
- They have bought a new car, haven't they?
- You wouldn't like to lose the game, would you?
In Question Tags, only pronouns are used, e.g.:
- We shouldn't worry about money, should we?
- Let's buy something to drink, shall we?
- Pass me some pepper, will you?
- Take this pill, won't you?
- There aren't any boys in your group, are there?
